Gerald qualified as an accountant in 1971 with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) and subsequently became a partner at Bartfield & Co when he began to specialise in insolvency and restructuring. Leading the insolvency department, Gerald handled cases across the full spectrum of corporate recovery, taking a keen interest in CVAs.
Gerald became part of RBR Advisory when Bartfield & Co were acquired by our parent company, Begbies Traynor, in 2007. Partner at the Newcastle Upon Tyne office, Gerald deals with both corporate and personal insolvency cases principally in Newcastle, Leeds, and London, although his expertise in contentious cases is often called upon from across the country.
Former chairman and part owner of Leeds United AFC, Gerald specialises in the restructuring and turnaround of football clubs and other sports groups. A hugely experienced insolvency practitioner, Gerald obtained his license in 1986 and since then has been instrumental in a number of high profile cases, acting as joint administrator for both Bournemouth and Port Vale football clubs.
Highly respected within his field, Gerald has lectured to R3 and other fellow professionals on both corporate and personal insolvency matters in the UK and overseas (on behalf of INSOL). A number of successful cases in both the High Court and The Court of Appeal have solidified Gerald’s position as one of the country’s leading turnaround professionals.
