Joining the Begbies Traynor team in Manchester in 2009, the parent company of RBR Advisory, Paul is recognised as a reputable business leader in the North West.
Specialising in business rescue and recovery, he is a licensed insolvency practitioner, holds an MBA degree and in January 2017, he was appointed Chair to the R3 North West Committee for a three year term. R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals, is a restructuring trade body acting nationwide.
His past experience spans from working at Dawson White, the IVA provider for an OFT approved debt management company. Paul spent 11 years at Baker Tilly, international accounting and advisory firm, which included two external secondments with Ford Credit and Capital Bank.
Paul has actively campaigned for a clampdown on ‘rogue directors’, in light of the collapse of Carillion and BHS. The campaign urged government to make use of existing powers to tackle directors dissolving companies in order to avoid paying debts, staff wages and pensions. The new powers would give enough time to businesses to rescue the business and the ability to ban/fine directors in the event of wrongdoing.
He was also instrumental in the high profile Panorama investigation which highlights fraud in the UK Bankruptcy System, such as the ‘unexplained deficiency in bankrupt estates’. The legal case involved a bankrupt solicitor making excessive pension payments in order to keep money out of reach of creditors.
Paul is a key member of RBR Advisory and has a background in property, based on his RICS accredited BSc Land Management degree.
